Thanks very much for your interest in my workshops and other seminars. I really enjoy talking about and sharing my love of crime fiction and of writing.

Mystery Fiction as a Cultural Teaching Tool - I'll be giving this presentation on Sunday 20 March, 9:15AM for the California Language Teachers' Association at the Hyatt Hotel, Santa Clara CA.
Savvy Authors has very kindly given me the opportunity to present two upcoming deconstruction workshops:
27 December 2010 -2 January 2011
I'll be offering a deconstruction workshop on Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. In the workshop, we'll be looking at the way Christie uses characters, timing, "red herrings" and other devices to weave the story together. We'll talk about some of the lessons writers can learn from this novel, and generating some ideas that writers can take away for their own work.
For more information about this online workshop, or to register, please visit the announcement at Savvy Authors.
13 June 2011 - 19 June 2011
I'll be offering a deconstruction workshop on Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. In this workshop, we'll look at the way McCall Smith creates a unique sense of place and the way he uses backstory and other strategies to develop characters. We'll take a look at dialogue, flashbacks and other elements in this novel, too. We'll talk about lessons writers can learn from this novel, and generate ideas for writers to use in their own work.
